When you are away for a long period of time or a freeze advisory is issued, please drain water from pipes by opening all water faucets (including hot water) after closing the main water cock inside your apartment. Then close all the faucets.
*No need to do anything with the water heater.

※In the first-floor apartments of wooden structure buildings, an electric water drain system may be equipped. Or you may find a manual water drain cock in the toilet room, the kitchen, or the washroom. In the second-floor apartments, an electric water drain system may be equipped. ■Water Heaters
To prevent the freezing of pipes in winter, do not turn off the electric breaker even when you are away for days or when you move-out. The freeze protection function of the water heater does not work without electricity, and it may cause pipes to freeze or break.

■Drain Ports
To prevent freezing in drain ports, pour some automobile antifreeze or automobile window-washer-fluid into the water traps of the ports at the toilet bowl, the kitchen sink, the wash basin, the bathroom drain, and the washing a machine’s drain.
